Fresh off a solid and well-received performance at this year's RiverBend Festival, things are going nicely for Matt Carbone. With the release of his new six-song EP, Kings Highway, things should get even better for the local singer/songwriter.
Don't let the cowboy-esque picture on the back of the CD case fool you: This isn't country music. This isn't rock and roll. This isn't folk music. Or Bluegrass. It's a confident combination of them all, highlighted by Carbone's comfortable and direct songwriting, dynamic voice and fantastic playing.
In this era fo sloppy-yet-passionate indie rock and overly sampled frat hop, it's refreshing to hear somebody who can actually play an instrument. Or several. Come on, Matt. Only six songs?
